About MonkStreet
Who builds it, the company that runs it, and the three names you may see.
MonkStreet was built by Alberto Echevarría, a finance professional, as an independent project. It is run by a Spanish company in Madrid, Gestoría Administrativa C.G., S.L.P. This page explains who we are, why that company runs MonkStreet, and the three names you may see.
Why I built MonkStreet
For years I invested my own money, and helped people close to me do the same. I could build a strong case for almost any stock I owned. The better I got at making that case, the harder it became to see when I was wrong. I'd start with the data, then find the story that fit it, and before long I'd talked myself, and the people who trusted me, into calling it conviction. A lot of the time it was just storytelling.
I had no research team and no investment committee. It was mostly me in the room, with no one to push back.
So I built MonkScore: five pillars, scored the same way for every company, across thousands of stocks, with the story left out.
I ran my worst loss through it afterward. The quarter before that stock peaked, it scored 67 out of 100. The numbers had been bad for a long time. I just didn't have a way to see it once I'd fallen for the story.
Then I tried to break it. Our Methodology page sets out how we tested it and what we found, and our Track Record page shows each quarter's list and how it did.
I still use my own judgment. I wanted something that would check it when my own thinking started sounding too convincing. A floor under the gut, not a cage around it. This is the floor I wish I'd had.

Why a gestoría?
In Spain, a gestoría administrativa is a regulated professional firm. Gestores handle administrative, tax and compliance matters for their clients before public administrations, and may also provide general information and advisory services that the law does not reserve to other professions. Analysing publicly available financial information on companies falls within that scope, provided it stays general information and is not personalised investment advice, which only firms authorised by the CNMV may give (Ley 6/2023).
Gestoría Administrativa C.G., S.L.P. was registered in Madrid in 2014, years before MonkStreet existed, and MonkStreet is offered through it rather than through a new company. MonkStreet is a research and information platform that analyses public financial data. It does not provide tax, legal or administrative services to its users, and it does not give personalised recommendations to buy, sell or hold any security.
Three names, one business
- MonkStreet is the product: the website, the app, the scores and our emails.
- Gestoría Administrativa C.G., S.L.P. is the company behind it. When our Terms, Privacy Policy, Legal Notice or Disclaimer say "MonkStreet", "we" or "us", they mean this company.
- The Investing Monk is the name Alberto signs some emails and blog posts with. It is a pen name, not another company or product.
What MonkStreet is not
MonkStreet publishes research and tools. It is not a bank, a broker, an investment firm or a registered investment adviser. It does not give personalized investment advice, manage money, or recommend that any specific person buy or sell any specific security. Our Disclaimer explains what that means for how you use our scores.
